I have been a small fish in a big pond and a big fish in a small pond. Now, I am a bit of a fish out of water.
Since I started working at the age of 19 as a “Girl Friday” at a copier company in Walnut Creek, California, I’ve had a non-stop career. My career began in the 70’s when women were taught that they could have it all–a career, a family, an incredible love life–all while looking beautiful. And I believed it (except for the beautiful part) shoulder pads and all. Looking back, I can tell you that ideal was virtually impossible to pull off. I’m glad that today’s generation of women understand that better than I did.
It is an interesting challenge to purposely step off of the 9-5 treadmill and take the time to figure out what I want to do next. You see, I want the next phase of my career to be the best phase I’ve ever had. But, I have to figure out what that is.
I have cards in my hand but I will continue to “Go Fish” and see what surprises are in the deck.
